I’m sure that there are many people out there that are capable of replacing their auto glass. But most people wouldn’t even consider doing a job like that on their own. If you are a individual that already has insurance that will pay for the repair, that’s fine, but if you don’t have any insurance you can save a lot of money by doing the job yourself. Basically, you can install your auto glass with some basic tools, patience, and some common sense. It would be extremely helpful if you had a factory service manual handy. Obtaining the correct information specifically for you vehicle can cause you to avoid broken parts, unnecessary work, and guessing.
There can be a lot of different procedures to abide by if you are repairing on a window using a frame. This is usually the easiest type of glass replacement for the simple fact that you don’t have to work with chemicals and adhesives that can get real messy.
Before you start your repair, the first thing you should figure out is the parts of the car that have to get removed so you can get to the fasteners that is made to attach the window frame to the rest of the car. Right now at this point, the factory service manual would save you time, because it might not be so easy to identify where the fasteners are located or how the frame attaches itself to the rest of the car. Most of the time, you can remove what is needed with just some pliers, screwdrivers, socket set, and a wrench set.
If you are deciding to fix a glass that is located in a door, you can use a set of nylon or plastic tools to make the glass easier to remove. Sometimes you can use a rag to loop around the handle in order to pop the clip free. Once you have accomplished getting everything removed to expose the attachment fasteners, all you would have to do is unbolt the broken auto glass.
After you achieved the objective of getting everything apart, you should use a vacuum to clean up all broken glass debris from the door panel interior. If for some reason your replacement auto glass did not come with a seal, then you should check the current seal for any damage. Even if your old seal looks good, it would be very wise to replace it anyway to be on the safe side.
There is nothing more to do than bolting in the new replacement auto glass and then put everything back in its correct location. Do you see how easy installing auto glass is? Just about all of the time you will find that fixed glass that is equipped with a frame is increasingly easier to replace, especially you have a factory service manual in your possession. If removing the glass frame doesn’t look so obvious, then that factory service manual can really save you a lot of headaches and show you how the glass is removed.
You have keep in mind that the windshield on your car is way more than just regular glass to block the wind and weather. Some people might not know this, but the windshield basically contains up to 50% of the structural integrity of the entire car. It is possible that the windshield is responsible for causing roof collapse and airbag malfunctions. This basically means that proper windshield installation could make all the difference in the overall damage to a vehicle during a car accident.
To be safe and cautious you need to report any type of windshield damage to an auto glass technician, and have them examine the damage as soon as possible. Remember, you and your family’s life could be in jeopardy if an accident occurred. You should not take any chances with your life or other lives. Also be aware of auto glass repair shops that try to cut operating costs by installing windshields with low-grade adhesives, despite that our lives can depend on the quality of the install.
Make sure that your auto glass technician is not using silicon bathtub cocking to install your auto glass and do not trust a do-it-yourself-er.

Was wondering if you could give me some insight? We need to take the rear passengers side door pannel off of a 1997 F250 crew cab to see if the window motor needs replaced or if it has a loose wire? Not sure about the type of brackets used on door panel and how to remove them without damaging bracket or door panel. Can you help with any bracket or door panel removal advice? Thanks, Gina
